I’m Hannah, a born-and-raised Seattleite with a varied background in the Arts. I graduated from Cornish College of the Arts in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree where my focus was on Costume Design for Theater. I’ve also been involved in Home Staging, Fashion, Styling, Music, and Visual Arts. As a child, I spent time in the garden with my mother, a Fine Gardener and Horticulturist. I found myself drawn to the intersection of these things (Art and Flora) after college, and I quickly fell in love with Floral Design. I have always had a strong affection for skilled crafts of all kinds, and I relish any opportunity to get my hands dirty, draw from my plethora of experience and create something special. Art fosters community. In my work, I hope to explore the soft, tender, and deeply human need for connection and appreciation for splendor that is ephemeral.
Beyond creating, I am passionate about facilitating a straightforward, effective approach to projects. I am motivated to utilize the skillset I have accumulated over years of overseeing Costume Design in Theater and Wedding Coordination for Florals in a way that is helpful to myself and to other creatives who may benefit from help streamlining and planning to complete projects more efficiently. I have a propensity from keeping track of many moving, complex, and unique parts of projects, effectively planning the necessary steps to reach an end goal, and then implementing that plan.
I strive as well to do my work with a sustainable approach. I began my work as a Floral Designer at Terra Bella Flowers here in Seattle where the owner, Melissa Feveyear, taught me about the sustainable practices she has employed for years. She is a forerunner in the world of sustainable floristry, and I am extremely grateful to have had her guidance to help shape my own practices. Sourcing product from local farms whenever possible, being conscious about the growers’ practices when one must source from farther afield, and using reusable and non-toxic structural aids as opposed to floral foam are all important parts of my process. I would love to partner with others who value a sustainable approach and to work on projects that help raise awareness of this important topic or engage communities in conversations about how we can move forward.
